New Cover Tuesday!
Don’t let the fact that it’s not Tuesday deflect from your excitement that today is New Cover Tuesday! In fact, one of the original taglines for Misadventurous was, “With covers this good, every day is Tuesday.” But that fell HARD in A/B testing against a blank tagline, so I went with the winner.
Anywho, I had some free time this week, and I used it to feel bad about myself. Tale as old as time (and me) right there. My focus for this episode was on scrolling through writers’ Twitter feeds and mentally comparing their amazing covers to my hot garbage. At least, that’s what it felt like at times.
Now, don’t get me wrong, on some level, I understand this is just second-guessing myself and being overly critical. Plus, my budget for hiring an amazing artist revolves around finding a box of money, a goal I, as of yet, have not achieved. So I get the limitations I’m under here, but a part of me just felt like the current covers didn’t correctly convey the insides of the books.
I wanted the main title to be a little more whimsical. If that makes any sense. I mean, at a base level, these really are comedies, even if lately, there’s less farce and more drama. Still, at its core, it’s a comedy, and I felt like using a font more suited for comedies would make that clear. So I moved from this:
To this:
And I think that works a little better. I also added some heavy stroke to the lettering, which makes it work even more. I also removed the sword and staff, allowing the main circle to grow and use the rest of the space better. I reduced my name size to try and act more humble, as it was a bit ridiculous before, especially for an unknown author. I also added a small joke (A Humorousish Fantasy), which is always good for a comedy, right?
So I’m fairly pleased with the end result. It keeps the circle and number, which I like, but aligns the rest more with what I’m trying to do. So I’ll sleep on this for a little while and then see how I feel in a week or so. If I’m still jazzed about it, I’ll update the covers when I push Episode 7 out the door, along with some minor edits I caught in earlier episodes on the re-reads.
Do you like the changes? Hate them? Hate me? It’s all good. Just let me know. I’m due for an arch-rival soon, anyway!
